Skegness Lifeboat Car Wash raises £800 for RNLI SOS Day
A charity car wash outside Skegness lifeboat station on Friday (28 January) has raised nearly £800 for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) on the charity's biggest annual fundraising day – SOS Day.

Lifeboat crewmembers were still setting up for the event when the first cars turned up just after 8:45am and by the end of the day over 120 cars had been cleaned by the crew and helpers.

Coxswain John Irving says it demonstrates the fantastic level of support the RNLI receives from the people of Skegness.

He said: 'This was the first time we have organised our own event for RNLI SOS Day and we didn’t really know what response we would get. The crew worked flat-out during the day and at times we had cars queuing down the street.'

John added: 'I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who came down to have their car washed and help us achieve such a fantastic result.'

Around the country, hundreds of SOS Day events – inland as well as around the coast – raise vital funds to help the RNLI save lives at sea. For further information about SOS Day visit www.rnli.org.uk/sos.
