The second Skegness RNLI Lifeboat Ball held last Saturday night (6 October) has raised £11,534 for the charity, thanks to support from title sponsors Centrica Energy and numerous local businesses.
The event, held at The Suncastle, was attended by 176 guests – each given a 'Golden Ticket' opportunity to win a trip on the Skegness lifeboat Lincolnshire Poacher. Hallgate Lincs Ltd, Jacksons Building Centres, Skegness Springs Ltd and Sills & Betteridge Solicitors were among the many local businesses contributing to the success of the night through sponsorship.
The evening featured entertainment by local entertainer Stefan Michaels, and eight-piece band Soul Intention.
Title sponsors Centrica Energy have close ties to the area as operators of the Inner Dowsing and Lynn wind farms off Skegness, and the nearby Lincs wind farm, currently being constructed by fellow event sponsors, MPI Offshore.
Ball organiser, Second Coxswain Ray Chapman said he was overwhelmed by the support and generosity of their sponsors and guests.
Ray said: ‘Last year’s event was a huge success, helping to fund new lifejackets for the volunteer lifeboat crew here at Skegness. We never expected we could beat last year’s total and raise so much for the RNLI.’
He added: ‘I cannot thank our sponsors and guests enough for their support and generosity leading up to the event and on the night.’
The event is expected to return in 2013, with further details and dates available in the new year.
