Skegness' week of fundraising raises over 4,500 for the RNLI
Skegness RNLI lifeboat station's annual fundraising week has raised £4,692.67 for the charity that saves lives at sea.

Collections at the Hildreds Shopping Centre throughout the week brought in just under £1,500 towards the total, and collections by lifeboat crew members at various bars on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights brought in a further £1,500.

The week culminated on Sunday with the annual Lifeboat Day open day at the station, with several fundraising activities outside the boathouse along with the lifeboats on display and Coastguard and RNLI Sea Safety information stands available to offer helpful safety advice to beach-goers.

The day was interrupted by two call outs for the inshore lifeboat Peterborough Beer Festival IV, when a number of children were reported missing from the beach. However, all were found safe and well shortly after the lifeboat had launched on both occasions.

At 3pm, the inshore lifeboat was joined by the all-weather lifeboat Lincolnshire Poacher, the RNLI's D class capsize training boat D-605-C, RNLI lifeguards and a number of simulated casualties for a demonstration launch off Skegness central beach.

Commenting on the fundraising results, Coxswain Ray Chapman said he was thrilled with the outcome.

Ray said: 'We were very lucky to have had such excellent weather for Lifeboat Day this year, it really brought the crowds down to the station and the beach and I'd like to thank everyone who donated during the week for their generosity.'

Lifeboat Day 2015 is expected to be held on Saturday or Sunday 25/26 July.
